Article Marketing is one of my favorite ways to drive traffic to my site. First of all, it doesn’t cost any money out of pocket if you write the articles yourself. Second, when I complete the article, I feel like I have accomplished a great task for the day, knowing that I am teaching others and helping them accomplish their goals.

Never let anyone tell you that article marketing if free, though. It is not! It costs you your time and your time is worth every minute you burn up to write those articles. If an article takes you approximately 30 minutes to write, and you are worth $30/hour, then you have just burned up $15.00 worth of your time. The busier you get, the more valuable your time becomes, because you can’t make any more of it. 24 hours is 24 hours…bottom line.

Once you get real busy and you find your niche on article marketing, you can outsource your writing. There are many people on the internet that would love to write your articles for you. It is called “outsourcing”. When you find someone that writes like your style, you will want to use them over and over again. At the end of this article, I will give a few resources for article outsourcing.

When determining if you are going to write articles, you need to determine what your purpose is in writing the articles. If you want to write because you love to teach, and that is your motivation, then this should come very easy to you. Your desire to teach others will flow through onto the paper. If your motivation in writing is to drive traffic to your website, then you need to figure out what to focus on to be able to have enough to write about. Sometimes writing does not come naturally to people, but when they start with the subject they are familiar with, the words and content begin to flow.

Keep in mind that an article does not need to be a literary work of art. Its purpose is to teach a simple point to the reader without boring them, and to get them to want to learn more from you. When they finish the article, if you have “wet their appetite”, then they will click on your link in the Resource box and find out more about you, or they will Google your name to read more of your writings. The key is to give them “golden nuggets” of advice. I call it common sense in business, but you would be surprised how many people will comment, “I’ve never thought of it that way”, or “that makes sense, why didn’t I think of that”. What is common sense to you, might not be to others.

If you write an article about weight loss, and give real good tidbits of information, then the reader will be more apt to want to learn more from you. If they see in your Resource box or contact area that your website has something to do with “weight loss or nutrition”, then they are more likely to click on it to see what you are doing. It is just a natural reaction that people have. They are curious, they want to know what interests you have.

There are a few important details to keep in mind when writing articles, though. Spelling, grammar and punctuation are important. No one likes to read articles that have many misspelled words and grammatical errors. Plus, some directories will not publish your articles if there are too many errors.

A basic guideline to follow when writing your articles is to write between 300-700 words. Start with a headline that will draw the reader in to want to read your article.

In the body of the article you will want to tell the reader what you will be writing about, maybe even give them a definition of something. The second or third sentence might be to pose a challenge of which I will give the answers to following that in bullet form or with use of numbering, such as 1., 2., 3., etc.

If you find your article is going too long, it is better to break it up and call it Part 1, with a Part 2 follow up article.

People do not like lengthy articles, and submission websites prefer shorter articles, as well.

A keyword rich article is nice to draw people in that are focusing on certain keyword related problems, but they do not make or break your article. This use to be very important a few years ago to have “keyword rich content”, but it is not so important anymore. Use a key word once or twice in the article or once in the headline and you should be fine. People want help in solving their problems, not an article loaded with fancy, big words. They want you to give them answers that are easy, so they can get their problems fixed.

A few months ago I wrote this article to tell people the importance of personal goal setting, and how it can help them in their network marketing business.  Goal setting checklists and to do lists are vital in achieving  your daily goals, as well as long term goals. Goal Setting – Is It Worth It?

Statistics show that 95% – 97% of the people in the world do NOT have goals that are written down, and they fail to reach their goals, while 3-5% of the people have written goals and succeed.

My question is, do you currently have goals? That is, a list of say 5 things that you have committed yourself to doing? These are things that you will do, in specific terms, by a specific date? For instance, if you are in network marketing and you want to reach the next level to qualify for better commissions, you would need to write down that level you are trying to achieve, as well as, the specific date in which you want to achieve this goal.

To help you achieve your goals, you will need to do 3 things:

1. First, get a Notebook and write down your goals, each goal on it’s own sheet of paper.

2. Then make a detailed itemized list under each goal of everything you can think of that will help you achieve that goal. It might be 10 things, or maybe 50. It just depends on how big the goal is.

3. The 3rd step is transferring those specific items to a “to do” list one or two at a time (from each goal) each day. Cross them off as you complete them. If you can’t finish all of the tasks for that day, transfer them to the next days “to do list”. It takes at least 21-30 days to form a habit. So once you have gotten used to making your “to do” lists each day and faithfully cross off the accomplished tasks, this will become 2nd nature to you, and soon you will see yourself accomplishing your goals at record speed.

The key is only put on your “to do” list what you think you can realistically accomplish for that day. Once you achieve 1 of the goals, replace it with another goal. Add new ones along the way, as you become more disciplined towards accomplishing those goals. This is definitely not Rocket Science. It is just defining what you want to achieve in life, putting your words in writing and then transferring those words into actions.

If you are having a hard time figuring out where to start, always start with the most important goal or most urgent need. Then make your sub-list of all of those things required to make the goal achievable. Most people need motivation to start working towards something. Your motivation in trying to achieve this goal, will help form the habits to help you reach your future goals. Once you establish this pattern, your life will forever be changed.

As a network marketer, this is a valuable tool to teach and train your sales force. They will see you accomplishing your goals and will want to know your secret. You can share with them the easy steps of goal setting. Soon your sales force will explode for everyone on your team achieving their dreams and goals.
